- Do you have a list of dive sites around PNG?
- Is there a dive association in PNG?
- What is the best time to dive in PNG?
- We divers have become somewhat upset of late with different airlines providing different luggage allowances to divers wishing to fly with them. As I am sure you are aware, SCUBA diving equipment is heavy and divers tend to fly a lot, so this is something of importance for us.
Can you please tell me your company's policy on carrying diving equipment (how much free allowance is avaliable, how much a diver must pay if they go over that allowance etc) on your passenger flights so that it can be put on the uk.rec.scuba website and this problem can be solved once and for all.

Hi Alun,
unfortunately I am not in a position to be able to answer that question but please visit the Air Niugini web site for Air Niugini's answer to that.
http://www.airniugini.com.pg/FAQ/airline_related/baggage_queries1.htm (Question 3)
There are two parts to your question (1) what is allowed? should be answered above and (2) what are the excess charges? should be found on the following pages -- http://www.airniugini.com.pg/fares/excessgrid.pdf
The above answers your questions for Air Niugini however the "third level" airlines will have different rules due to the smaller aeroplanes that they use.

- Are there any books on the wrecks in PNG?
Try the "mecba" book titled Port Moresby Wrecks and Reefs

- Are there any dive boats based in PNG?
Yes there are many. As a starting point I would try contacting some of the following operators. Not all have dive boats but I am sure they will help point to a dive boat that will be pertaing when you want to visit.

As a starting point try a visit to the Royal Papua Yacht Club website located at Royal Papua Yacht Club or Royal Papua Yacht Club (another site)

- What should I bring with me if I am going to dive in PNG?
Whilst most dive vessels will carry adequate first aid kits it may be worthwhile carrying some of these items with you especially if you go off by yourself.
Analgesic
Anti-seasick medicine
Band aids (some large ones)
Insect repellent
Sun tan lotion
Sun burn Cream
Ear Drops-alcohol/vinegar base. Daily use will prevent outer ear infections
Antibiotic ointment for coral cuts - see your physician
By far the greatest threat to your health whilst in PNG will be sunburn. (Cuts and bruises can be expected as well)

- What tiny island in PNG has been acclaimed as one of the greatest dive sites of the world.
Wuvulu Island has been acclaimed as one of the greatest dive sites of the world. Wuvulu rises straight up from an undersea plateau approx 2000 metres deep. As there are no rivers or creeks on the island the water is uncommonly clear. There is a guest house on the island and dive equipment is available. Wet season is April to November. From September to January the unprotected beaches along the coastline bring surf-board riders from around the country and overseas to surf one of PNG's few surf spots.

- Can I dive near Madang?
Yes, The entire north coast becomes another wondrous world of discovery and delight for snorkelers, divers and those interested in marine ecology. Try MALOLO PLANTATION LODGE - they have dive facilities.
MALOLO PLANTATION LODGE is accessible by road and is only 45 minutes drive from Madang.

- Are there any B25 bombers that can be dived on in PNG?
There is Mitchell B25 Bomber: A completely intact situated in Madang harbour. After 50 years it's overgrown with colourful corals. However, you can still identify some instruments in the cockpit and see some ammunition on the ground. (Where you leave it as is!)

- What is "the Boston"?
The Boston is an American mine sweeper sunk during mine clearing operations just after WW II. This is a spectacular wreck dive near Madang. She is sitting aground in 30 to 40 m. You can dive the bridge and the engine room.

These pages need your help - If you know an answer to a FAQ about PNG that isn't here or is here and is wrong please let me know. Ask a question - Submit a questionPlease note that this is not "Ask Jeeves" - you cannot type a whole sentence as your query. Enter a single word, a phrase, or several words and press search.
Please remember that this is a FAQ database about Papua New Guinea.
Doing a search for PNG or New Guinea or even P.N.G will probably not return much. Keep the search simple. i.e. if you want to find out the population simply enter "population" without the quotes. There is no need to have PNG / P.N.G or whatever in the search string.
Also - Spelling is important searching for 'inkom' will not return items related to 'income'. If you are searching Lady Carol Kidu just enter Carol Kidu or even Kidu. You are not searching the WWW only these FAQ's so the topic has already been narrowed to PNG related topics for you.
