- What is transportation like - can I Rent a Car? Are they expensive? Do I need a special driver's license?
In major towns and cities in Port Moresby, car rental is possible. The four major car rental companies are Hertz, Avis, Budget and Thrifty. Smaller towns have local rental companies. Depending on the size of the car one intends to hire the cost will vary. In PNG, you will find that on top of the basic rental fee, there is a per kilometre charge. Your valid drivers license is acceptable for up to three months of arrival into PNG.
Some smaller domestic centres have car rentals but do not have credit card facilities and because of this substantial cash deposit fees are charged. Payment must be in PNG Kina cash only. The amount of deposits vary depending on the car size and the destination.

- Are there any Jedi's in PNG?
Unlike the Australian census form the PNG year 2000 census form did not allow for Jedi's so it is not possible to answer that question.

PNG is ten hours ahead of England. (GMT / UTC) Whilst parts of USA are experiencing yesterday - PNG is well and truly into the afternoon of the next day. - Do you have any background information about the country called Papua New Guinea?
The eastern half of the island of New Guinea - second largest in the world - was divided between Germany (north) and the UK (south) in 1885. The latter area was transferred to Australia in 1902, which occupied the northern portion during World War I and continued to administer the combined areas until independence in 1975.

- who is the wealthiest person in Papua New Guinea today, 2007
Most likley a politician but what do you mean by "wealth". I have been told that wealth in PNG is not measured in the same way as wealth in other countries. A man with 5 wives and 30 kids might have no money to his name but be far wealthier than the man with the most money.
To top
- Where on your beautiful site can we find 'prices' for hotels, tours and airfares?
Prices change and I do not have pricing information.
To top
- Have you heard of Toulambi tribe, if so, where they were last seen? I know they are nomads living around the Owen range
I suggest looking at the following web site. It may be able to help you. -- http://www.runningman.tv/about/thefuture.htm
There is another web site but it is by way of paid subscription -- http://taylorandfrancis.metapress.com/index/KFB9QFX6P19N0WDK.pdf -- so unless you pay you will not be able to read about the tribe let alone see if the article suits your requirments.

- do you need a permit to use metal detector in the hunt for gold nuggets if so where do you go and are there any areas open to prospecting?
Are you a citizen of PNG or a foreigner? It would be very difficult for a foreign person to gain access to land legally especially if you were looking for gold.

- Who built the house of parliament?
Not sure but Fletcher's ring a bell for some reason.
To top
- What is the yearly rainfall of Papua new Guinea and What are the highest and lowest elevations?
This is a difficult question to answer. The rainfall in PNG varies very widely from mere millimetres to metres of rain depending on whereabouts in the country you are. As far as I know the lowest elevation is sea level and the highest mountain is Mt Wilhelm at 4509 metres (14793 feet)

- What do most people in Papua New Guinea do for entertaiment?
A tricky question. PNG is so diverse that there is not one sterotypical answer to your question. I would say, however, that if they are near a TV set during the Australian Rugby League State of Origin matches then they would be watching TV.
Normally there are dances (disco and traditional) to attend. Church functions, school functions, radio, TV, sports events, reading, playing games. I suppose PNG people are no different to anyone else in the world they will find entertainment if they want to be entertained.

Jon
It is usually about 47% for an expatriate worker.
To top
- Can you import domestic animals into PNG?
Yes, it is a lengthy process and any domestic animal usually needs to be placed in quarantine for 3 or more months. I will see if I can find out more info on this.

- Would TV's from Australia work in PNG
PNG uses PAL B. Analogue TV's (Not digital) will work 100% okay in PNG. PNG has one television station -- http://www.emtv.com.pg -- serving the major towns but cable TV is usually available. Cable TV offers over 20 channels in some locations. -- http://www.hitron.com.pg -- If you can afford it you can also have satellite TV but due to the fringe area reception you will need a large attenna.

Doing a search for PNG or New Guinea or even P.N.G will probably not return much. Keep the search simple. i.e. if you want to find out the population simply enter "population" without the quotes. There is no need to have PNG / P.N.G or whatever in the search string.
