BSP Regional Tennis for Schools Programme 2010
BSP, the Nation’s largest Bank, has recommenced the BSP Regional Tennis for Schools Programme that proved to be such a resounding success all around PNG with thousands of school children and their teachers last year.
In May 2009, BSP announced a major sponsorship worth K150,000 for the PNG Tennis Association and created the BSP Regional Community Tennis Programme as a result. Very positive hands-on support by all local BSP Branches involved helped to ensure the success of the programme in each location, which was conducted in Daru, Kiunga, Wewak, Maprik, Aitape, Vanimo, Tabubil, Madang, Buka and Kimbe. In total, over 12,000 students and teachers took part in the BSP Tennis Programme last year with excellent results.
Now the excitement has returned with this year’s programme which commenced early June in Popondetta covering three main schools in the area, Ressurection Primary, Bethel Elementary and Popondetta Secondary School. PNG Tennis Association Development Officer, Michael Foo, was in Popondetta to conduct the Tennis Programme. Michael also provided Train-the-Trainer classes for Teachers and interested Parents as this training assists on-going tennis at schools.
Rosemary Mawe, BSP Manager PR & Communications, said BSP is pleased to be able to bring the tennis programme to the schools throughout PNG again, as tennis is such a healthy and invigorating sport that brings a lot of fun, training and excitement to our school children.
The BSP Tennis programme is set to roll out around PNG with Kavieng, Lihir and Lorengau at present scheduled during the June-July period.
